Molecular Evolution Laboratory Limited (MELL) is a Jamaican diagnostic laboratory expanding access to molecular testing alongside essential clinical laboratory services for patients and healthcare providers.
Our origins
A Jamaican laboratory with a distinct scientific identity
Molecular Evolution Laboratory was established to provide molecular diagnostic services to the Jamaican population.
The laboratory's name, logo, original photography, and focus on molecular science are central to its identity. As MELL expands its clinical, provider, and research pathways, that foundation remains visible throughout the laboratory and this website.

Leadership
Directed by a physician-scientist and molecular microbiologist
Dr. Mellesia Lee, MBBS, MSc, PhD
Founder, Chief Executive Officer, and Laboratory Director
Dr. Lee holds a PhD in Molecular Microbiology with Distinction from the Medical University of Vienna, completed medical and graduate training at the University of the West Indies, and has postdoctoral research experience at Georgetown University.
Her work includes PCR-based diagnostics, molecular epidemiology, pathogen characterization, genomic surveillance, assay implementation, clinical laboratory systems, and translational infectious-disease research.
